The Research Tools module allows student and admin users to use data from Outcome Surveys to gain valuable insights. This article will highlight how to use each Research Tool.
Please note: In order for students to make use of Research Tools, ODA Access must be configured for their graduation year. See ODA Access Site Settings for more information.

Outcomes Index
The Outcomes Index is a useful tool to see how different employers, industries, functions, and additional attributes compare as it relates to compensation and the number of job offers extended at your institution.

Example: To view which Industry extends the most job offers to students graduating from your institution.

Navigate to the Outcomes Index tool after selecting Research Tools from the left navigation panel.

Set the attribute filter to Industry by selecting Change and selecting Industry (if it isn’t selected by default).

Select Get Results

Selecting Drill Down populates details on the selected industry.

Selecting Expanded Results will automatically open the selected Industry in the Salary Database Research Tool.
Salary Database
The Salary Database is a powerful research tool that leverages past data collected to provide current users with information about employment salary statistics.

Salary Database allows students to find targeted information relevant to them and answers questions such as: “What did people who graduated from my school who went on to work for Company X, get paid?” or “What was the average salary of the previous graduation class that worked in the Consulting Industry?”

Students that analyze salary information during their career search can compare job offers based on salary, benefits, and other compensation to confidently negotiate an employment offer.

Example: A student receives a job offer and inquires how the salary offered to them, compares to other salaries offered in their selected industry.

Navigate to the Salary Database tool after selecting Research Tools from the left navigation panel.

Set your attribute filter to Industry by selecting Change and selecting Industry (if it isn’t selected by default).

From the drop-down menu, select a desired industry.

Utilize filters to narrow and optimize your results.

Select Get Results

From the results, users can filter through the Job Details tabs to display more information on the selected industry.
Interview Database
The Interview Database tool stores interview questions, insights, and other information from past graduates that have provided data on their previous interviews. For example, the Interview Database is a useful way for a student that is seeking insight into the interview style and questions asked by their preferred employer 12twenty.

Navigate to the Interview Database tool by first selecting Research Tools from the left navigation panel.

The page will default to include “Industry” as the default attribute.

Select Technology from the dropdown menu, then select + to the right of Industry.

Select Employer from the list of recommended attributes. A box will appear where users will input a desired employer, and then select Get Results

Your results will populate below the search box.

The Interviews tab offers individually submitted interview details, questions, and insights in a box to the right of the selected interview.

You can also navigate through the additional tabs for specific interview questions and insights.
Offer Timeline
The Offer Timeline is a tool that allows users to view how various employers, industries, functions, and additional attributes are distinguished in regard to the timing of when job offers are extended.

Example: A student that wants to pursue a career in the Technology industry is inquiring to know the time of year that hiring for this industry is concentrated in.

Navigate to the Offer Timeline tool by first selecting Research Tools from the left navigation panel.

Set the attribute filter to Industry by selecting Change and selecting Industry (if it isn’t selected by default).

Utilize the Industry filter to choose Technology and select Get Results

The data displayed will be the total number of job offers extended each month.
Offer Job Source
Offer Job Source is a tool that allows users to identify how students with past reported outcomes, obtained their accepted, received, or rejected job offers.

Example: A user wants to know how MBA Students in Los Angeles landed their job offer.

Navigate to the Offer Job Source tool by first selecting Research Tools from the left navigation panel.

Select Metro Area as the attribute.

Select Los Angeles from the dropdown menu of the Metro Area filter and select Get Results

The data will display in a pie chart with the correlating key to the right of it.

Pro-tip: Offer Job Source is a great way to see how impactful an institution’s career center is in regards to influencing job offers that are extended to their students.
Offer Trends
The Offer Trends tool allows users to visualize how job offers from various employers, industries, functions, and additional attributes have trended over time.

Example: A user wants to view the amount of job offers the Technology Industry extends to students over the course of a few years.

Navigate to the Offer Trends tools by first selecting Research Tools from the left navigation panel.

Select Industry as the attribute, and select Technology in the Industry filter.

Select Get Results. The data will display in a graph.
Class Overview
The Class Overview tool allows users to see a high-level view of student outcomes.

Example: A user wants to see how many of the students that graduated in 2020 accepted job offers, and how many were still seeking employment.

Navigate to the Class Overview tool by first selecting the Research Tools module from the left navigation panel.

Filter for Graduation Class = 2022 and select Get Results to view the data.

Pro Tip: Admin users may export the data found in the Outcome Index, Salary Database, and Interview Database tools by selecting the “Export to XLS” option. Student users may export data from the Interview Database tool only.
Judicial Clerkship Placement Tool *For Law Programs Only*
The Judicial Clerkship Placement tool within the Research Tools allows law school students and career center users to see where their fellow students have clerked in the past.
Users may search using a variety of attributes such as City and Metro area. You can also select "See Complete List" to see the other options. These attributes can then be combined with various filters to make searches more specific. The results of your search are displayed in a list format for easy review.
Graduate School Placement *Undergraduate Programs Only*
The Graduate School Placement tool allows students to search the database to see where their classmates are choosing to attend graduate school.
Students may search using a variety of Job/Location, Education, and Background based attributes such as Degree Sought, College/University, Gender, and World Region. Once they have selected an attribute, students can filter their searches by graduation class, college/school, and major/academic program. Once the search criteria are set, select "Get Results" and review the information provided.
