This resource includes the 12twenty recommendations for hardware to use with card swipe Kiosks.
Check-in Devices
Any laptop or device that connects to USB will work with 12twenty. Most partners use laptops, desktops, or tablets.
Note: While any device can be used with Kiosk, name tag printing is not supported on iPad.
Please refer to our Name Tag Printing resource for more information about name tag printing.
Card Reader
We recommend the MSR90 USB Swipe Magnetic Credit Card Reader 3. If you plan to use an iPad with card swipes, a USB-C to USB-A or Lightning to USB-A dongle is required.
Note: There is no software to install for the card reader.
Check-in and Name Tag Printing
A laptop, desktop, or Windows Surface device is required to support both card swipes and name tag printing. Printing name tags on-demand while students check in requires the printer to be connected at kiosk launch (indicated by a "printer connected" message). Name tags will print when a student checks in by swiping their card or entering their email/ID.
If using a card reader for printing please note that your device will need at least two available USB ports to connect with the card reader.
- Connect card reader
- Connect name tag printer
- Navigate to the 12twenty Kiosk Landing page
Please review the Name Tag Printing resource to review the required hardware and labels for printing name tags on-demand.
Minimum Requirements:
- Internet connection
- 12twenty supported browser
- Device (laptop, desktop, tablet)
- USB card reader that emulates a keyboard
- Name tag printer (see Name Tag Printing for requirements)
