What is Job IQ Explorer?
Job IQ Explorer shows a variety of Outcome data and other information from the selected data sources and filters allowing for a quick and simple way to view and compare data across specific student and alumni populations. Site settings can be configured to allow student and alumni access to this data as well.
With Job IQ Explorer you can:
- Switch between job phases (Internship, Post Graduation, Alumni)
- Choose a data source (your school data or a network/peer dataset, if enabled)
- Apply filters (like Graduation Year) to narrow results
- Review results across tiles like Hires by Location, Job Details, Compensation Summary, Job Source, Offer Timing, and Trends
Accessing Job IQ Explorer
Job IQ Explorer is only available for users who have User Role Permissions to Access Student Research Tools & Job IQ Explorer. These users can access Job IQ Explorer via the left-hand navigation menu.
- Select Job IQ Explorer
- Choose a Job Phase*:
-
Internship (
/job-analytics/internship) -
Post Graduation (
/job-analytics/post-graduation) -
Alumni (
/job-analytics/alumni)- Note - Due to differences in data between the "Work Experience" job phase, "Offer Timing" and "Offer Trends" tiles are not available on the alumni page.
-
Internship (
*Note: Your site will only show Job Phases that are enabled.
Switching Data Sources (School vs Network)
Some sites allow you to switch to a broader network dataset (for example, US Schools, Canadian Schools, etc.). Switching sources in Job IQ Explorer automatically resets the data so they remain valid for the new dataset that was selected.
A notification will display when this occurs:
Job IQ Explorer Tiles
There are several different tiles across Job IQ Explorer that display different types of information about Outcomes to users. Each of these tiles are described below.
Hires by Location (Map)
The map visualizes hiring trends across regions, darker regions indicate more hires while lighter or gray regions indicate fewer.
- Hover a region to see the total number of hires
- Darker regions indicate more hires
Job Details
Job Details shows a more granular view of outcomes by Hire or Compensation/Base Salary.
These Hires and Salary values are broken down by individual attributes available as tabs:
- Industry / Job Function (or Employment Type / Practice Area for law schools)
- Employer
- Location
- Job Titles (your site instance's data only, not available across the network)
Values can also be added as a filter with a single click via the "+ Add Filter" option that appears when hovering over the value.
Compensation Summary
Compensation Summary shows aggregate compensation metrics (primarily median and percentiles, based on your site's configuration and enabled attributes).
Offer Timing
This chart displays when job offers are accepted and received over the course of a year, helping users identify peak recruiting periods.
Trends
Trends charts show changes over time for Hires and Median compensation (by pay type, where available).
Job Source
Job Source displays the top job sources for outcomes that meet your filter/data source criteria and groups smaller categories into Other as needed.
What if a Tile has no Data?
If Job IQ Explorer doesn’t have enough data for a Trends metric, the chart is hidden and displays the warning: “We do not have enough data available to create a chart for this metric.”
Data Availability, Permissions & Visiblity
Student and Alumni data is only included in Job IQ Explorer if it meets the following criteria:
- Insufficient Data Minimum: If your site requires a minimum number of records for reporting, some tiles may not display results until the minimum is met. This is configured via the "Research Tools" site settings section. More details on this setting is available here.
- Network vs School differences: Some filters/attributes may differ between your school dataset and network datasets, which is why filters may update when switching data sources.
- Admin Data Availability: Admin data availability follows the same “data availability” rules used for student-facing analytics (so admins don’t see data that hasn’t been made available yet, when your site is configured that way). This is configured within the "ODA Access" site settings section.
What you can access depends on:
- Whether Job IQ Explorer is enabled for the job phase on your site (managed under "Research Tools" site settings as outlined below)
- Your role permissions (specifically Access Student Research Tools & Job IQ Explorer)
- Data sharing/network participation settings (if applicable)
Enabling Job IQ Explorer for Your Site
Job IQ Explorer is designed to replace the existing legacy "Research Tools" within your site instance. Therefore, we recommend that you enable Job IQ Explorer for admin users first, and once ready, contact us via the support team to disable "Research Tools"- at the same time, we will enable Job IQ Explorer for your student and alumni users, creating a clean transition.
The existing legacy research tools will be retired in July 1st of 2026 ahead of the fall semester and Job IQ Explorer will be automatically enabled for all customers.
