Validation & Possible Errors

Once you upload the file, the system will run checks:

  • The first 10 options must pass validation. If they don’t, the process will stop and return this error:

“The first 10 options have validation errors. Please review the options and try again.”

  • If validation issues exist, all errors will be displayed together.

Possible Errors:

  • Missing or incorrect mapped values
One or more required mapped values are missing or do not match available options. Please review your file and try again.

  • Duplicate values
One or more values in your file already exist for this picklist. Please review your file and try again.

  • Maximum upload limit exceeded
You’ve exceeded the maximum number of options allowed in one upload. Please reduce your file size and try again.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I edit existing picklist values with bulk upload?
No. Bulk upload is designed only to add new picklist values. Existing options must be edited individually.

What’s the maximum number of options I can upload at once?
You can upload up to 500 options in a single bulk upload. If your file contains more than 500 options, please split it into smaller files and upload them separately.

What happens if I upload a value that already exists?
The system will stop and display an error message letting you know that duplicate values were found. You’ll need to remove duplicates from your file and re-upload.

Do I need to include all mapped values?
Only required mapped values must be included. Optional mapped values can be left blank.

What file type is supported?
Only .csv files are accepted. Other file types (Excel, TXT, etc.) are not supported.

Can I preview the new values before they’re added?
No preview is available at this time. Once the upload is validated and processed, the new values will appear in your picklist.

How are display orders assigned when I bulk upload options?
When new options are added, the system automatically assigns display_index values in sequence. For example, if your last existing option is 3, the new bulk-uploaded options will start at 4 and increase by 1 for each additional item.

Will each option show up individually in the audit log?
No. Only a single audit log entry is created for the entire bulk upload process. Individual option-level details are not logged.

How do I find the correct values for mapping?
Core mapping values can be found in the CSV file attached to this article. Use these values when filling in the mapped fields in your upload template to ensure successful validation.
